Governance

MCCG is an incorporated volunteer organization that operates under Articles of Association, with the following objectives:

  • To work with the Brisbane City Council towards the implementation of the actions recommended in the Catchment Management Plan published by BCC in June 1997;
  • Improve the environment within the catchment;
  • Recommend ways to rehabilitate and restore the catchment and waterways;
  • Educate the general community about the importance of protecting our waterways.

The Group’s activities are directed by the Management Committee consisting of a Chairman, a Treasurer, a Secretary, a Public Relations Officer and committee members who are elected annually at the AGM. The Management Committee meets every month and holds two Public Meetings each year.

Insurance Cover for MCCG Volunteers

MCCG is a member of Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC) and so is provided with insurance coverage through this body.

MCCG members are provided a range of insurance coverage when undertaking activities on private and public land.

Current Policies include Public Liability, Volunteer Accident, and Association Liability and can be viewed at www.qwalc.org.au. Certificates of currency are held by the secretary and can be viewed on request.

It should be noted that it is not a requirement that the property hosting the activity is owned by an official member of MCCG, providing a registered member of the group is present at all times. Also the MCCG committee is responsible for the approval of activities and projects and in ensuring that the necessary steps are taken in providing a safe working environment for its volunteers.

For further information, check the QWaLC website (www.qwalc.org.au) or email Darryl Ebenezer [darryl@qwalc.org.au]

Volunteers working on Council land are insured through BCC and details may be obtained through your Habitat Brisbane officer.
