School Success Celebrated - And the Hunt is on for the 2010 Winners

Cr Margaret de Wit attended the recent assembly of Upper Brookfield State School to present the students with the Lord Mayors' Perpetual Schools Shield for their winning entry in the Moggill Creek Catchment Groups' inaugural Schools Photography competition. Fittingly this was also the final assembly of Mr. Bruce Robertson as Principal of the School. This gave Mr Robertson the opportunity to congratulate his students for rising to the challenge of presenting a number of photographs focused on environmental issues that were important to the school.

The presentation of the Shield also marked the launch of the 2010 competition, open to schools within the Moggill Creek Catchment or Pullenvale Ward. Cr Margaret de Wit, congratulated the students and staff of Upper Brookfield School for their success, which proved that it was not always the larger schools that were successful in competitive events. Cr de Wit challenged the students to "start snapping", as the 2010 competition entries would be due by the end of August. Cr de Wit added that she hoped the students would "rise to the challenge of seeing the name of their school appearing on the Shield in future years."
The competition was judged by Dr Joseph McDowall, who had not only commented on the general high standard of entries to the 2009 Moggill Creek Catchment Group Photography Competition, but also particularly congratulated the school on their winning entry. Dr Bruce Flegg MP had previously joined with Cr de Wit and Dr McDowall in congratulating the school on their win, when Dr Flegg MP had presented the school with $100 toward school library resources as part of their prize.
