MCCG's Contribution to the Koala Crisis in SEQ

From the MCCG wildlife database I submitted a map of our community koala sightings for Chapel Hill/Kenmore Hills/Brookfield/ Upper Brookfield/ Pullenvale/Bellbowrie and Moggill to the South East Queensland Koala Habitat Assessment and Mapping Project that was undertaken by the Queensland Government during 2009. These sightings, which are purely incidental and not the result of active surveys, number 51 (2004-Jan 2010).

Approaches to Controlling Environmental Weeds in the Moggill Creek Catchment

Summary of a Workshop held at the MCCG Environment Centre on 24 October 2009

The idea behind the workshop was for a small group of experienced practitioners to get together to compare notes about their experiences dealing with particular weeds in this catchment, which could supplement the material which is easily available in published form.  As it turned out, there was a particular focus on experience gained from using selective herbicides.

Feral Deer

Recent changes to the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 have formally recognised the significant environmental and social impacts of feral deer in Queensland. Feral Rusa deer are now declared Class 2 pest animals, and Fallow and Red deer are declared Class 3 pest animals. Council and landholders have a legislative obligation to control the numbers of feral deer on their land.

Declared weeds occuring in our catchment

Weeds are a major threat to biodiversity and revegetation throughout our district. Some weeds you are required to remove; others are an environmental threat and others again are not known to occur in our district. Some useful tables showing known prevalence of State and Council listed weeds in our district were compiled during the writing of "Our Place in the Country: Managing your acreage property in West Brisbane." (published by PPCG and MCCG in 2009).
